Who runs this site

This site (“The Verdict”) is operated by Alexandros and Anna, who are the joint data controllers. You can reach us any time using the Contact option at the bottom of the site.

What we collect

• Your account: the username you choose and your password (stored only as a secure one-way hash — we never store or see your actual password).
• Your submissions: any reason you post is shown publicly on the Wall of Shame next to your username. Don’t post anything you wouldn’t want to be public.
• Basic technical data: your IP address may appear briefly in server logs and is used to rate-limit abuse. It is not used to profile you.

Why we use it (legal basis)

We process the above to run the service you asked for — creating your account, keeping you logged in, and publishing the submissions you choose to post (GDPR Article 6(1)(b), performance of the service; and 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and abuse-free).

Opinion tally

When you answer the yes/no question, we add your answer to an anonymous running total so we (and visitors) can see the overall split of opinion. We only keep the aggregate counts — the tally is not linked to your account or identity, and individual answers are not stored.

Cookies

We use a single strictly-necessary cookie (named verdict.sid) that keeps you logged in during your session. Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, strictly-necessary cookies do not require consent, but we disclose it here for transparency. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. If we ever add non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing. Submissions are, by design, visible to anyone who visits the site. The site is self-hosted on our own hardware using Docker and Caddy — these run on our own machine and do not send your data anywhere. We use DuckDNS to point our domain name at our server; it stores our domain and IP address, not visitor data.

How long we keep it

Your account and submissions are kept until you ask us to delete your account, after which they are removed. Server logs are short-lived.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, or delete your data, or object to how we use it. To do any of these, use the Contact option at the bottom of the site. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Cyprus Commissioner for Personal Data Protection (dataprotection.gov.cy).
